Develop, strengthen and consolidate research capabilities in informality
130 million people in Latin-America region are involved in informal jobs, according to ILO figures (2016). HEI research centres, institutes and labs focused in analysing this topic in LA context, are facing the need of enhancing their capacity for the analysis without having consolidated research and networking structures. Research centres lack the adequate resources to produce outputs and to ensure its impact in the internal context (training contents, academic and scientific interest and commitment) as well in the external (policy makers, statistical operators). Thus, the results are far away of optimizing its quality and impact.
In this context, LATWORK project “Developing Research and innovation Capacities of Latin-American HEI for the analysis of Informal Labour Market” aims to develop LA HEI research structures and innovative methodologies for satisfying the scientific needs of creating knowledge in the field of informal jobs and informal economy. The specific objectives are:
- Mapping the current situation in the production of research outputs on informal jobs and economy in Latin-American HEI.
- Mapping the procedures of production and uses of research output in the internal and external HEI context. Measuring impact and potentials.
- Build capacity in research and innovation through EU HEI expertise in creating research centres specialize in the field of labour market issues.
- Creating High Performance HEI Research Centres to produce outputs.
- Creating a platform to standardize and upgrade the applicability of the research results at regional level.
- Create a platform to ensure high impact of transferring procedures.
- Create a multidisciplinary research structure of research work to ensure the best possible capture of the informal labour and economy phenomena.
- To reach higher efficiency of scientific procedures.
- Develop a networking culture of continually and regular production of outputs in the field of informality in labour market.
- Increase the level of commitment of HEI, researchers, graduate and more specifically PhD candidates’ students, other HEI internal stakeholders and policy makers and external stakeholders
